A comprehensive whitepaper detailing the physics, safety mechanisms, and procurement criteria for project developers and structural engineers.
Tempered glass (also referred to as toughened glass) is classified as safety glass due to its distinctive thermal processing and fragmentation characteristics. The manufacturing process involves heating high-quality float glass to its softening point (approximately 620°C to 650°C) inside a specialized tempering furnace, followed by rapid cooling utilizing high-pressure air streams—a process known as quenching.
This rapid quenching cools the outer surfaces of the glass much faster than the inner core. As the core cools, it pulls back on the outer surfaces, inducing high compressive stresses on the surface layer (typically in excess of 95 MPa or 10,000 psi) while creating balanced tensile stresses within the center. This structural stress profile grants tempered glass 4 to 5 times the mechanical and thermal strength of standard annealed glass of equivalent thickness.
A primary challenge for procurement departments sourcing structural glazing is spontaneous breakage caused by Nickel Sulfide (NiS) inclusions. When glass is heated, NiS particles transition to a high-temperature alpha-phase state. Rapid quenching freezes these particles in this unstable state. Over time, when exposed to outdoor solar radiation and temperature variations, these inclusions gradually revert to the low-temperature beta-phase, which involves a volume expansion of 2.2% to 4%. This internal expansion within the tensile zone is the main cause of sudden failure.
To eliminate this threat, premier suppliers execute Heat Soak Testing (HST) in accordance with EN 14179. Glass panels are placed in a calibrated chamber and heated to 290°C for several hours, forcing panels with NiS inclusions to break safely in the factory rather than after installation on a skyscraper facade.
A pioneering force in flat tempered, laminated, insulated, and architectural glass manufacturing since 2006.
Founded in 2006, Jiangsu Guoxin Glass Co., Ltd. has established a prominent reputation as a leading manufacturer in the architectural and security glass industry. Over a stable and successful track record spanning two decades, we have continuously optimized our production processes to deliver reliable, high-performance structural glass solutions globally.
Our expansive production facility is equipped with automated CNC cutting machines, edge-grinding complexes, forced-convection tempering furnaces, and dynamic PVB/SGP autoclave lines. This advanced infrastructure enables us to manufacture complex double-curved laminated panels, heavy-duty insulated units, and bulletproof composite glass designed for complex structural designs.
At Guoxin Glass, our dedication goes beyond basic glass tempering. We work closely with structural facade consultants, design institutes, and commercial contractors to verify wind load resistances, acoustic performance, and thermal transfer (U-Value/SHGC) metrics. This collaborative, engineering-first approach ensures that every project meets or exceeds regional safety regulations and energy codes.

How Guoxin optimizes global procurement with deep cost structures, advanced automated scaling, and strict quality control.
Located in the heart of China’s major glass manufacturing cluster, Jiangsu Guoxin Glass Co., Ltd. benefits from a highly integrated supply chain. We maintain long-term partnerships with top-tier float glass producers, securing direct access to premium quality silica sand and raw glass sheets. This direct integration shields our clients from volatile market shifts and ensures consistent clarity, tint stability, and physical properties across large orders.
By executing every step of production—from raw CNC sheet optimization, edge profiles processing, hole drilling, thermal tempering, to final double-lamination or assembly—under a single roof, we eliminate intermediate logistical overhead and minimize lead times for major projects.
Procuring construction components internationally requires strict adherence to localized safety standards. Guoxin Glass addresses this challenge by aligning our internal testing protocols with the requirements of major destination markets. Our tempered glass, laminated glass, and insulated units undergo continuous testing to verify mechanical deflection, impact resistance, and environmental durability.
Our quality management systems are certified to ISO 9001:2015, and we actively maintain compliance certifications for different jurisdictions, including the European CE mark (EN 12150 & EN 14449), the American SGCC (ANSI Z97.1), and Australian AS/NZS standards, enabling smooth customs clearance and regulatory approval.
